Essar targets 5 pc of Repsol: Report

MADRID: India's Essar group is studying the acquisition of 5 per cent of Spanish oil giant Repsol, worth 1.3 billion euros ($1.70 billion) at current market prices, Expansion newspaper reported on Thursday, citing energy market sources.
Essar, which is also eyeing assets owned by Royal Dutch Shell's and BP Plc, could either buy the Repsol stake in the market or from shareholders La Caixa or Sacyr, the newspaper said.

Repsol and savings bank La Caixa declined to comment, while debt-laden builder Sacyr, which holds 20 per cent of the oil company, was not available for comment.
